What is Timmy's Fund? Timmy Quigley was diagnosed with an extremely aggressive form of brain cancer in May of 2004. He underwent the best treatment available but after a 7 month battle, Timmy passed away in December of 2004 at only 2 and 1/2 years old. Too many families deal with this same saga on a daily basis. Timmy's Fund is an organization established to help relieve the financial burdens of families that are currently suffering from the emotional and financial stress of childhood cancer. We are striving to provide financial relief to EVERY family that is going through this horrible tragedy in their lives.
I am uncomfortable completing online purchases. Can I pre-register using cash or check? Yes. Just fill out your registration and then write a check to Timmy's Fund (placing "Registration for (your name) in the memo field) and send to PO Box 5088, Fairmont, WV 26555. You registration will not be complete and name will not be added to the Riders page until we have received your registration fee.
I have pre-registered but can not make it for the ride. Can I get a refund? This is a non-refundable registration fee. We would like for you to consider this as a donation which will help those in need of Timmy's Fund.
What if it rains during the event? This event will be held rain or shine. If it rains, just be prepared for a lot of muddy fun.
Can I ride 100 miles? Yes! It may be a challenge depending on your experience and fitness, but the answer is yes. The important thing to remember is that you can do it and there are many who will help you along the way. Even if your legs are tired, your heart will be happy.
If you feel that you can not ride 100 miles but you still would like to participate, consider the option to ride only on Sunday.
I am purely a road rider, and originally from out of state. Is this trail road bike friendly? The North Bend Rail Trail is mostly crushed stone. You will run into some rough spots and grassy areas. In the event of rain, I would not recommend a road bike for this event. The trail for Day One is in better condition than the part for Day Two.
What are your thoughts on a child riding? Will it be too much physically? In my own opinion, if your child can ride 8-15 miles between breaks there should not be an issue. We will have SAG vehicles avaliable if the child gets tired and wants a ride to the next rest stop. This is a non-competitive ride so ultimately the decision would be up to the parent and child.
Will I be riding alone? We will be coming together as a group to help families in need. It is likely that you will find many new friends to ride with throughout the tour.
What if I get a flat tire? The ride is fully supported including a professional bike mechanic and supplies, massage therapists, daily route maps, emergency phone numbers, sag vehicles to carry your personal gear, and overnight lodging at North Bend State Park. Breakfast and dinner will be at the Lodge and sponsored by local businesses and there are regular food and water stops along each days route that is sponsored by local groups in the area.
How much do I need to fund-raise? Each TIMMY'S CENTURY cyclist must raise a minimum of $300 (one day ride) and $375 (two day ride) to participate in the ride. However, we encourage each cyclist to raise as much money as time and resources allow. Your extra efforts will insure even more net dollars for the families that are struggling with expenses while dealing with childhood cancer.
Before the start of the ride, each cyclist must turn in their minimum amount of funds raised for Timmy's Fund. By ride day, sponsor contributions or a personal contribution totaling minimum amount must be turned in. Any funds exceeding the minimum can be turned in prior to December 1, 2010.
What will I eat? Cyclists will be provided with breakfasts and dinners each day. Breakfast will be served between 6:45AM to 7:45AM. Supper will be served from 6:00PM to 7:00PM. There will be rest stops along the route that will provide you with all your energy needs.
